By the turn of the 1970’s technological advancement was exceeding expectations in all areas, and the computer revolution was well and truly underway when we reached 1975, the year in which a certain Bill Gates and business partner Paul Allen created a company that is nowadays a daily name of the highest order – Microsoft.

The video recorder also began to take hold in many countries, although the legendary battle between VHS and the doomed Betamax had not been resolved – and a small number of home computers came onto the market for the first time.

It was in 1975 that the Conservative party made the radical choice of a woman, Margaret Thatcher, as its leader, and the Iron Lady – as she became known – would go on to achieve success and notoriety in equal measures. Elsewhere in the political arena the Vietnam War finally came to a close, and the USA pulled its troops out of Cambodia.

In Britain politics took a sinister turn as the IRA continued to wage war on London, and the high profile murder of Ross McWhirter, one of the founders of the famed Guinness Book of Records, shocked the nation. The IRA would also make a target of the Park Lane Hilton in 1975.

1975 was the year in which the digital camera, a device that has completely revolutionised photography, was first announced, and the extremely popular and successful film ‘Jaws’ hit the big screen, while in music the British rock group Queen took the world by storm with the revolutionary and ground breaking single ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, which came complete with a rudimentary video and began another change in the way music was perceived.
