London is a large city with a great number of prominent, famous and successful football clubs, but it is quite possible the most famous of all is Arsenal FC. The Gunners, as they are known, were indeed the first of the southern clubs to join the football league, and as such are the oldest of the capitals clubs.
A very successful side indeed, Arsenal hold two very impressive records: they are the only side to have gone a season unbeaten in the Premier League, and they also hold the record for the longest unbroken stay in the top league. With no fewer than ten FA cup victories, it is no surprise that this is a team with a strong following both in the UK and abroad, and the iconic badge – with the carriage gun – is one of the best known in football.
Having moved from the Highbury stadium to the new and very impressive Emirates Stadium – named in deference of their chief sponsors – in 2006, Arsenal can boast one of the most modern stadiums in the world. With a capacity of just over 60,000 there are few that can hold more spectators, and also few with better facilities.
The team gets its name as it was originally formed by workers at the Royal Arsenal, and the link has been kept ever since. Manager Arsene Wenger is now a legend among the Arsenal faithful, and the team goes into every season with a very strong team and the loyal and unwavering support of an army of supporters.
