Full Description!

Leeds United is one of the most famous names in English football, a club that has seen much in the way of highs and lows during its long lifetime and one that is supported fiercely by an astonishingly loyal band of fans. The club as we know it was formed in 1920, having been preceded by a team known as Leeds City which was wound up in 1919 after a financial scandal, and has always played at Elland Road stadium.

The loyal support is typical of northern cities, where working men took the weekend pastime of cheering on their team to heart, and matches that of neighbour city Manchester where both clubs in that city have strong followings.

Winners of the top tier league title in the 1991-92 season, Leeds has seen little success since yet despite financial struggles frequent dips into the lower leagues the club remains strongly followed.

Eland Road is, in fact, one of the ten biggest capacity stadiums in England and draws massive crowds even when the team is in the lower divisions, and at present the team is in yet another troubled patch, having had to go into liquidation in 2007.

Despite all this the team soldiers on with typical Yorkshire resilience, and a look through the list of former players includes greats such as Billy Bremner and Jack Charlton – true greats indeed – while fans must be hoping that the current problems are mainly in the past and this once proud and great club can begin to look to the future again.
