Liverpool Football Club is a name familiar with any sports fan the world over, and ranks as one of the most famous and most widely supported of UK football clubs. A mainstay of the English Premier league, Liverpool FC has a very strong and loyal following in a city that is blessed with two great clubs – Everton being the other – and is famed for the vitality and fervour displayed by the fans in the legendary ‘Kop’.
With no fewer than 18 league titles to its name, plus seven FA cup successes and numerous other domestic and European titles, Liverpool FC has won more trophies than all other English side, eclipsing even the success of the mighty Manchester United.
After many years in the doldrums Liverpool FC returned to prominence when the now legendary Bill Shankly was appointed manager in the late 1950’s; under Shankly the club roared back to the fore, and his name is forever linked with the revival of the club.
Playing traditionally in all red strips, Liverpool FC currently reside at Anfield, their home for over a century, and have plans to move to a new stadium currently under construction; with a capacity of just over 45,000 Anfield is a major stadium but one lagging behind the likes of Old Trafford. With such a loyal following, both at home and heard across the country at away games, there is ample potential for a bigger stadium to sell out all the time.
Current manager Rafael Benitez is in charge of one of the strongest squads in the premier league, and is looking forward to a successful season.
