Full Description!
Rangers Football Club has to be one of the most famous names in British football, a club that has achieved great success both in its domestic Scottish league and in European competition. Often mistakenly referred to as Glasgow Rangers – after the city in which they play – Rangers is a very heavily followed club with a veritable army of supporters ready to give support wherever the team plays and at home in the impressive Ibrox Stadium.
Formed as long ago as 1872, Rangers has strong connections with the Protestant community of Scotland, something that results in very hard fought rivalry with their closest rivals, Celtic, who play in the same city.
One of the ten original members of the Scottish league, Rangers has won the title 25 times and the Scottish cup 33 times, records both.
Ibrox Park is a legendary stadium with a capacity of just over 51,000 and was also the site of one footballs biggest tragedies, a crowd crush in 1971 that resulted in the deaths of 66 people. However, the ground is revered by fans of the club and has been the name of their home ground for over 100 years.
The Scottish Premier League is traditionally a Rangers/Celtic affair, and latter years have seen little change in that; current manager Walter Smith has the helpful hand of Rangers legend Ally McCoist to help him out and a world class squad is generally presented, and every year the ‘Old Firm’ fixtures against great rivals Celtic are awaited with glee.
